PASAZH CENTER CITY

15, Khreshchatyk str.

Pasazh is the commercial and residential building in the downtown. It was built in 1913 in a passage-way form due to two long parallel buildings. The idea of project was influenced by
the form and high cost of the land there. After World War II, Pasazh was rebuilt just as it was, with the primary décor. There are shops, cafes and restaurants now here on the first two floors. Apartments and offices are situated on higher floors. The Kyiv elite lived here all the time, which we can see from numerous of memorial plaques.

  • The monument to Ukrainian architect Vladyslav Horodetskii was opened here. He was a frequent visitor of local coffee shops here and wanted to build his famous project of House of Chimeras right here. Near the entrance from Khreshchatyk Str side there is the Avenue of Stars in memory to famous Ukrainian people, who succeeded in science,
    culture and sport.

  • There are legends and different versions about pictures on Pasazh facade. Strange garlands, emblems, the skulls of bulls, angels, night owls, Mercury wands, lamb heads with pineapple horns, male and female figures, children playing with lions – they all play with the visitors’ imagination.

Try to unravel a mystery of Pasazh facade. What is really pictured here?
